To take the fear out of drawing, I made a sketchbook out of envelopes. Silly as it may seem, I have been afraid of messing up my actual sketchbooks. Practicing shouldn't stress me out. So, solution, envelopes. Doodling on an envelope is no big deal. It was going in the garbage anyway. Now I'm drawing every day and enjoying art again.
Here is a glimpse into my sketchbook.I cut the envelopes open, then used a three hole pamphlet stitch and bedspread weight cotton to sew them together into a piece of folded watercolor paper. There are many videos on how to sew a journal. Here is a link to one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LukA-9aHW4o
Take me to a concert.
Lets listen to the band,
blaring blissful boisterous bebop,
louder than I can stand.
The place that I most want to go
is Yellowstone
to see Old Faithful blow,
Niagara Falls, the Hoover Dam
to watch the water flow,
Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse
blasted in mountain stone,
Lady Liberty proudly standing
in the harbor all alone,
Grand Canyon wide and deep
with Colorado River below,
Giant Sequoias and Redwood trees
covered in glistening snow.
I am always watching kids and dogs,
so if I never get to go,
anywhere I am with you
I’ll have a happy soul.

The dumbest thing a man has ever said to me was,
“You’re so cool your brain is froze.”
What?! My brain is froze?!
My first reaction was to be offended,
but I tried to keep in mind that it was intended
as a clever compliment
inappropriately said
in front of his girlfriend
as they picked up her children
that I had been watching
all day for them.
